Chapter News for July-August 2026
America is celebrating semoquincentin – 250 years – this year and, believe it or not, Route 66 is 100 years old this year also. Twenty six years ago, several of Capitol City Chapter members made the Route 66 trip from Chicago to L A in “vintage” cars. It was a wonderful fun trip. Another trip, made by chapter members (in modern cars), was a trip through Nebraska. We saw many museums and private car collections. Another trip, put together by Pat McMonigal was a bus trip going East as far as Ohio with stops at several automobile museums. Henry Ford, Chrysler, Studebaker, Auburn Cord Duesenberg and a few others.
In sorting through long forgotten papers, I ran across mementos of all out trips involving cars. It was a blast from the past.
Just heard on the news that California is trying to pass a law that ALL cars must meet pollution specifications, including vintage cars. Jay Leno is fighting to defeat the bill.
Capitol City Chapter is busy. Three car shows. One at Harmony Gardens on August 13, and at Waverly Gardens on September 3. and our car show at Parkview UCC church, on July 12 is to thank them for their generous loan of a room for our meetings. August 9th brings our annual chicken fry and meeting at Wolens (flyer in NL).
The CCC steak fry was quite well attended with delicious steaks, and an array of pot luck dishes. Thank you Steve and Shawn Taylor for your great hospitality, and thank you Ernie and John for grilling the steaks.
Region activities include Chaska steak fry on August 2. Don’t forget to bring something for the silent auction. Proceeds go to the region. Fall Foliage, hosted by Capitol City Chapter, is September 25-27.
Don’t forget July 22-24 2027 in New Ulm, MN. It is the AACA National judging meet hosted by the Minnesota region. Everyone had such a great time at the Grand National a few years ago that we were asked to do it again. Linda and Kim have been working on it for a year. Please sign up to help in any way you can (ask Kim or Linda). Bring your car or just come for the fun.
That’s it for this time.
Have fun, drive safely, and enjoy your cars.
