Prairieland Chapter

St. James, MN area

2023 President: Tom Anderson

March-April 2023 Chapter News

This has been another busy summer for the car clubs. Since we corresponded in June, we have had some very well attended events – starting with Park Days in Madelia, with 18 local cars in the parade. Then there was Railroad Day at St. James with nearly 40 cars from the area and again, great support from Prairieland. Last, but certainly not least, on the third weekend in August, the 56th Annual Butterfield Threshing Bee. Once again, President Tom manned the auto display building. This year, the featured car was any model of barn find or completely original. Some very nice cars and trucks were there, such as a 1934 Chevrolet, owned by Brian Lenning, a 1954 Chevrolet owned by Richard Carlson (Richard rode home in this car when his dad purchased it brand new in Comfrey, MN), a 1923 Buick – never restored and driven in the parade – owned by the Tim Schwanke family and a 1951 Ford F-1, purchased new by Richard Carlson’s uncle and which Richard drove as a young man when it was new. The last event for the July-August period is getting ready for the Godahl Day Celebration (by the way, this is the 68th annual celebration). The parade is Monday, September 4th and the parade begins at 12 Noon, with line-up starting at 11:30 AM. This is a neat, small town parade and is very well attended by locals.

Besides all of the events and car-related gatherings, President Tom continues to keep in touch with the club and his club staff. We are all dealing with the fact that summer is silently slipping into fall. We are trying to come up with a fall event. And to all of our members, we are thankful for yet one more very successful season!
