Strong Touring Award

THE SIDNEY AND KATHERINE STRONG TOURING AWARD

An annual award to encourage the use of older vehicles (cars, trucks, motorcycles, etc.) at A.A.C.A. events, emphasizing the word “Antique” in “The Antique Automobile Club of America.”

I – ELIGIBLE VEHICLE

Eligibility is the same as that for the Glidden Tours: Vehicles up to and including 1942. They are not to have been altered in any way other than with what might have been original equipment, if available, reproductions thereof, or for safety reasons. (No “modern” enhancements) In the event of mechanical breakdown another eligible vehicle can be substituted without penalty. This award goes to drivers, not their vehicles.

II – WHO IS ELIGIBLE

Eligible drivers must be members of the Minnesota Region AACA in good standing. To encourage potential drivers this award can be won only once

III – ELIGIBLE EVENTS

Eligible events will be those published in Antique Automobile, Northern Lights*, or another Region’s publication or website. Chapter specific events are not eligible.

 IV – HOW DETERMINED

This award is for those miles actually driven under a vehicle’s own power to and/or from an event plus those driven on the event. Miles by trailer will not count. To compensate for the difference in the age of vehicles, those miles will be converted to points by the formula: vehicle miles driven plus a 1% age bonus for each year prior to 1942. For example, a 1941 vehicle gets a 1% age bonus, while a 1932 vehicle gets a 10% age bonus, and so on. (42 minus the model year of the vehicle = % bonus). The bonus increases with the age of the vehicle, and the driver with the highest point total for the year wins the award.

 V – WHEN AWARDED

Those interested in competing for this award must keep track of the event, driver, vehicle used, its year, and eligible miles driven. This information is to be sent to the Chapter or Region Secretary by November 1st of each driving year, with recognition given at the next Annual Meeting..
